The mini + DS-1210 get a fixer upper
Sometimes decisions are made for you. I have been thinking about my options for putting a computer rack in the basement for a while, a 6' cabinet which I may never fill? a nice sound proof one that would live in my office ? wall mount? in-wall mount? decisions decisions, so many choices. My friend at Middle Atlantic keeps offering and I keep thinking about it. The DS-1210 is asking me for a cabinet and a new UPS, so I need to decide.
So there I was driving by the local community television station with the family and out in the parking lot is a pile of, well, racks! Old video equipment racks, old computers, Amiga stuff, etc. I go home, get the ever handy pickup truck and head back, as I am perusing the piles an employee comes out and verifies for me that they are trash and "have fun".
While the 6' racks are tempting they are completely excessive and a pain in the ass to move around. The stuff looks antique but standard 19" made of heavy gauge steel, indestructible stuff. This desk stands out as my best choice.

Which I can transform into

Wheels and all, just a little dirty and scratched up. It is a little painful to chuck the rest of the desk but it won't win me any points with the wife.
The retro gray looks good but I am still deciding whether to repaint before I start populating it. Either way it is a lot better than one of the worst rackmount solutions

Actually, that looks really good. And as racks go, it looks allot more useful than some big honker off in the corner. Since most of us don't use drawers in our desks, why not hve mini racks in place of the drawers, like you have!?! You've inspired me...
